In San Diego, CA, Jill Weeks Smith was born with a passion for creativity. At the young age of twelve, Jill began oil painting taught by another artist and close family friend. Along with oils, she has tried her hand at many art forms. Silk screen designing, as well as art for publications, while still in high school, were some of the many.

Smith was educated in Fine Art at Utah State University with an emphasis in Oils. She then moved to Sacramento, CA, where she has lived and worked ever since. Taking a short hiatus to raise a family, Smith gained new perspective, making her work rich and vibrant, yet thoughtful…

“I have learned patience. Knowing not to rush and sometimes, not to think. But rather, paint the emotions stirring within and let them dictate the outcome of the piece.

Color is my real inspiration and I tend to gravitate towards those that are rich and saturated. My subject matter sometimes follows color palette. Everyday objects, randomly and unintentionally placed together often create beautiful color combinations. These become the focal point for vibrant and powerful abstracts.

Emotionally charged landscapes are a second theme, revealing feelings aroused in me by nature. Wind, fire, cloud shadows and sun rays are intriguing. I find myself captivated and must try to recreate the feelings these entrancing moments allowed me to experience.

The scale of my work is also very important. A tree painted on a very large-scale commands attention and draws you into the majesty of its branches. Conversely, a steaming cup, painted on a very small canvas, invites you into the intimacy of its warmth.

Never tiring of changes in life and nature, I am constantly exploring new ideas and approaches to implement into my work...”

The period of time represented by Jill Weeks Smith’s most current portfolio spans between 1999 and 2006. Her art work has been featured in the Doiron Gallery and Taylor’s Nouveau Art Gallery. She has participated in many art shows throughout Northern California. Her work can be found in the Elk Grove City art collection and private collections throughout the United States.
